Maz Compton admits she gave up drinking

Radio DJ Maz Compton has revealed she was drinking a bottle of wine a night before deciding to quit alcohol following the death of her manager.

The 31-year-old admitted her life was 'unravelling into disaster' when her former manager, Mark Byrne, died suddenly in September 2014. 

At the time the 2DayFM star said she often found herself waking up with no memory of how she got home the previous night, and she had begun turning down plans with friends to stay at home alone to drink.

Speaking of the time, she said in her lengthy blog post: 'My life was certainly becoming dependent on (booze).'

'My life was slowly unravelling into a disaster zone. The problem was that I would, more often than not, have a drink in one hand, sometimes one in each. 

'I would drive my car to a party with the intention of just having one or two and find myself still fully-clothed in my bed the next day nursing a hangover with a taxi receipt hanging out of my purse and zero idea how I got home.'

At the time the brunette was hosting 2DayFM's breakfast radio show with Dan Debuf and regularly appeared on Weekend Sunrise shows.

Life of the party: While Maz was holding down a successful TV and radio career, she admitted to feeling lonely at home where she would often drink on her own

Despite holding down a flourishing presenting career, she had begun cancelling plans with friends to stay at home to drink alone.

She cited her divorce from husband Benjamin Facey as among the reasons she turned to booze, and when she started skipping dinners with friends to sit in her courtyard and drink on her own, she knew she had a 'problem'.

When her manager Byrne died suddenly of a heart attack in September 2014, the beauty said she decided to quit drinking in a tribute to his life.

Initially planning to abstain for just the first month of the year, the DJ said she found herself motivated to continue after a fitness holiday in Thailand which she returned to this year.

Maz and her co-host Dan Debuf lost their position at the helm of 2DayFM's breakfast radio slot in November last year. 


They were replaced by former Bachelorette Sam Frost and Rove McManus in a reshuffle aimed to revive ratings. 

She continues to appear on weekend radio shows and works regularly as a television host.
